As a teenager in 1996, now TV personality/TSN sports anchor and curling commentator Bryan Mudryk was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, which nearly cost him his life. Not just once but twice he battled the deadly disease, enduring high-dosage chemotherapy, and receiving a stem cell transplant at the Cross Cancer Institute. The three years Bryan grappled with cancer were his darkest days. "It was horrible. It can't help but change you. I learned a lot of life lessons in those three years." Today Bryan is cancer free, but not without remembering the promise he made all those years ago, while his mom wheeled him out of the hospital. Before exiting, he turned around and said "Mom, one day I will give back a million dollars to this hospital." Today we are all living his dream!
In 2013 we successfully reached the Million dollar mark, and we were all thrilled that we had achieved that goal. But Bryan refuses to stop there... why not give back another Million!! So that is exactly what the Annual Bryan Mudryk Golf Classic will be about... chasing our second Million dollars for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. And we would be so pleased to have you join us in any way that you can to help us do just that!
This annual event has an outpouring of wonderful, kind celebrities who come out and support Bryan's cause year after year. Distinguished guests range from TSN and CTV personalities, Olympic Gold Medal &/or various World Championship athletes, local radio personalities, Members of the Alberta Parliament, and regional political dignitaries. This years list is growing and changing constantly so be sure to check our Celebrity Support page to see any recent updates!

Bryan's StoryFor two days, Bryan Mudryk lost hope.
Lying in isolation at the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) in Edmonton for over a month, the 20-year-old clung to life as the treatment his Hodgkin’s Lymphoma nearly killed him. “It hurt to chew. It hurt to move in bed slightly,” the Boyle, Alta. native recalls of those terrible days over a decade ago. “I couldn’t walk to the washroom. I had a nose bleed for 14 hours one day.” [ read more ] |
ScholarshipsIn 2009, the Bryan Mudryk Golf Classic tournament launched a special scholarship for those who are fighting cancer while continuing their post-secondary education. In conjunction with the Cross Cancer Institute, from now on, every year 5 students will receive a scholarship towards their education as they undergo treatments at the hospital.
The donations for the Scholarship program are separate and above and beyond the donation process for Cross Cancer patients and equipment. [ read more ] |
